The hotel is delighted to collaborate with established gallery 'Ode To Art' to present a series of contemporary art exhibitions for the year 2010. Each exhibition will feature international as well as local artists. As one of the largest galleries in Singapore, Ode To Art hosts a collection of art and sculptures that spans the spectrum of this genre. It is a space that allows for art lovers to enjoy the diversity that contemporary Asian art offers, and it is in a setting that encourages art appreciation.
“Cascading Landscapes” showcases paintings by more than ten artists that speak to the soul and revolves around seasonal changes and undercurrent tensions. Emotive reflections from the artist flavours each artwork, as depicted from a myriad of styles such as painterly brushwork and vibrant colours, to render perceptively the emotions that one feel. Fluidity of form is expressed through this selection of works, without a restriction on the journey the viewer can take through time and space. Ranging from sentimental whispers to loud bursts of energy, the art presented attempts to compel one to inquire the source from which such feelings are derived.
Artists’ Profiles
Lim Ah Cheng (Malaysia)
Born in Malaysia, Lim Ah Cheng hardly expresses any strong opinions on any subject. However, his art reflects a different side of him. Lim's highly “fluid” style show acertain understanding and appreciation of various media including oil, acrylic and Chinese ink. The actual medium of his paintings is a combination of both oil and acrylic, or rather, mixed media. Lim combines an Oriental identity with his brushstrokes in a Western medium, but with a modern interpretation. He likes to paint horses because they are revered for their strength and beauty.
Pan Kyi (Myanmar)
Born in Myanmar in 1983 and graduated from the University of Culture in Yangon, Pan Kyi does not paint merely from being inspired by the land, rather, he paints inwardly; painting his own interpretation and perspective of the world. He loves quiet, empty spaces that bespeak solitude and peace. His compositions provide a quiet place and sanctuary where we can reflect inwards and his works represent an ability to find peace and contentment, even when the leaves change colour.
Hong Zhu An (Singapore)
Hong Zhu An paints artworks that attest to his tireless effort and devotion to his craft. Not satisfied with producing works that are merely visually pleasing, he also pays meticulous attention to the underlying theory and spirit of artistic creation. He paints with a distinctive style, attaining a remarkably high artistic standard as well as a very refined level of artistic appreciation. Hong, exploring how best to combine the spirit, form and technique of traditional Chinese art with the concepts of contemporary art has, after many years, succeeded. The results of his bold and diligent experimentation are pieces infused with individuality that nonetheless retain a contemporary feel. He also has a talent for expressing artistic passion in a rational manner. One can say that his artistic expression is a natural reflection of his personality.
Khin Zaw Latt (Myanmar)
Khin Zaw Latt is one of Myanmar’s most talented younger artists and the winner of the 2008 Myanmar Contemporary Art Awards. Khin holds a degree in Painting from the University of Culture in Myanmar and has continued to explore the theme of crowds and the emotions they create in us – both as participants and observers.
