Pan Pacific Singapore Supports Earth Hour 2013
Pan Pacific Singapore will join more than 7,000 cities and towns globally for Earth Hour on Saturday, 23 March 2013 at 8:30pm in a massive show of concern for the environment.
Initiated by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour is a conservation initiative inviting individuals, businesses, governments and communities to switch off lights for an hour with the goal of creating a global platform to unite the world in protecting the planet.
The hotel will join this effort and operate with minimal lighting during this hour. This includes turning off or dimming non-essential lights such as certain façade lights, lights around Poolside and the Keyaki Garden, guest room corridor handrail lights and the lobby foyer lights. The air- conditioning will also be increased by one degree Celsius.
Guests will be encouraged to participate in this global movement by switching off or dimming the lights in their rooms between 8:30pm to 9:30pm, and gather in the candlelit Atrium where they can enjoy complimentary, commemorative “Earth Hour cocktails and mocktails”.
Following its recent S$80million transformation, one of Pan Pacific Singapore’s key initiatives was the implementation of a smart energy management system in all its 790 guestrooms which automatically return the lights and air conditioning to an energy-saving standby mode when the room is vacant.
“Being environmentally conscious is an ongoing aspect of our corporate social responsibility efforts and observing Earth Hour reinforces our commitment towards energy conservation. Energy saving bulbs and LED lights are used wherever possible and we have replaced the majority of our air conditioning units with more efficient, lower energy consumption models. Waste recycling schemes have been implemented in the rooms, administrative offices, and back of house operations. Our energy conservation committee also meets regularly to track ongoing initiatives and to explore environmentally-friendly alternatives in our daily operations.” said Mr Thiva Kesavan, Executive Assistant Manager (Hotel Operations), Pan Pacific Singapore.
