As one of Asia's most famous shopping streets, there is no shortage of retailers, restaurants and entertainment options for everyone on Orchard Road. Cut through the crowds and clutter and get your hands on a few truly specialist items, with the help of our local experts.
With so many choices, the main question is where to start on Orchard Road? Renee Lodens, founder of 'Travelshopa' has some tips for Singapore visitors looking for boutique fashion pieces:
"On face value you would think that Orchard Road does not offer much more than well-known luxury and high street brands. However, within the row of massive multi-story malls, lies opportunity to discover the local brands of Singapore. To capture a sense of the local fashion scene, make a beeline for local designer hotspots like Mandarin Gallery, Orchard Gateway, Orchard Central and The Cathay. You will discover more hidden gems on the upper levels of ION Orchard and the basement of Wheelock Place, as well as Scotts Square and Pacific Plaza (just off Orchard on Scotts Road). As you can probably see, one day is not enough – so plan to spend at least two days browsing this world-class shopping strip."
We also asked local fashion influencer, Nicole Wong, about her favourite boutique fashion store: "I love Tangs Orchard as they carry a great selection of local and Australian labels. Plus there is a great cafe, Island Café, tucked inside the building, which is perfect for a mid-shopping break."
Television personality, Jade Seah, agrees with Nicole, also adding women's fashion trendsetter Rockstar as one of her go-to spots.
We asked Alvin a.k.a. 'Bagaholicboy' about his favourite bag destination on Orchard Road: "Orchard Road has plenty of good malls selling a luscious variety of bags, but if I had to pick just one, it would be Ngee Ann City. Besides housing large flagships of the 'fabled three' - Chanel, Hermès and Louis Vuitton, you can find pieces from the likes of Dior, Fendi and Loewe.
"And then there's everyone's favourite chevron monogram, Goyard, multi-label luxury retailer On Pedder, that has even more brands and perennial darling, Céline. If I had time to shop in only one mall for bags, Ngee Ann City would be it."

Looking for a memorable spot to soak in the surroundings along with your meal? Skii Chung from Singapore culture website, Popspoken has a couple of favourite haunts:
"What first struck us when we entered Sumiya Charcoal Grill in Orchard Central was the vintage enamel signage, traditional Japanese drums, copper crockery and a variety of timeless knick-knacks that adorned the walls of the cosy restaurant. The décor transported us back to the 1950s, and invoked a sense of nostalgia as we moved through the dining space, Orchard Yokocho (alley) and the alfresco terrace.
"Not technically on Orchard Road, but located nearby and definitely worth a visit is Open Farm Community. Nestled in the tropical lush greenery, it’s hard to believe that skyscrapers and supermalls are just down the road. Sprawling over 35,000 square feet, the green space exists both as an urban farmland as well as a horticultural hub, incorporating a coffee bar, fresh juice, and cocktail bar as well as lawn bowling and table tennis facilities."
Looking for a whole day itinerary? Kate McFarlane, editor of Sassy Mama Singapore, told us about her ultimate day of shopping, eating and drinking on Orchard Road. But what would yours be?
"My perfect day on Orchard Road starts bright and early with an iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts at ION Orchard, followed by a stroll around the mall. ION is my favourite mall in Singapore; I love its signature scent, and it’s got the best range of shops.
"Then I’ll pop next door to browse the endless book aisles of Kinokuniya at Ngee Ann City; if my daughter is with me I’ll inevitably pick up a board book or three. For a special treat, we love going to OverEasy for two of their signature items: the milkshakes, and the to-die-for crispy Brussels sprouts – seriously!
"If it’s a casual night, we might grab dumplings at Din Tai Fung at Paragon, but on special occasions my husband and I inevitably head for dinner at Luke’s at The Heeren for some prime steaks and Boston seafood, paired with an impressive winelist."
