Youth Career Development Program Graduation Ceremony Group 6

September 4th 2009, Sari Pan Pacific Jakarta hold its 6th graduation ceremony for Youth Career Development Program (YCDP). 10 selected Indonesian youths from under privileged families have successfully completed their 6 month period (started in March 2009) training in different departments in Sari Pan Pacific Jakarta; Housekeeping, Food and Beverage, Laundry and English language class. This innovative program was designed to provide youth with actual experience in working life and most importantly, to avoid them from any form of commercial exploitation or trafficking.
This is a collaboration Community Care program between Sari Pan Pacific Jakarta and Save The Children. In this group, the 10 youths (8 boys and 2 girls) from age of 17 to 21, are not only coming from Jakarta . Some of them are coming from other area such as Garut, Bandung and Karawang.
“During our 6 months training, we have gained so much knowledge from all of our mentors about hotel industry; now, we have learnt how to make up guests’ rooms, kitchen products, the methods, and the sequence of services in F&B Department and not to mention to learn English. We hope, all these trainings, will give us enough experiences to find ourselves a job.” said Husna Ismail confidently, one of YCDP students on his speech during the event.
Youth Career Development Program was established, launched and implemented in 1995 by the Pan Pacific Bangkok in Thailand, it is designed to prevent the exploitation risks which usually happened to the under privileged Children. Fully supported by UNICEF, this program has been developing and running by other big hotels in Bangkok.
This program had received the world acknowledgement for the innovative approaches until the lower society level. In 1997, the International Hotel and Restaurant Association had declared YCDP program as the best role to prevent the Child Sex Tourism.
