Singapore Holidays: Top Activities For Thrill-Seekers

Singapore isn’t just a cultural, shopping or foodie paradise. The little red dot is making a name for itself as a sporting destination, and plays host to a number of global sporting events such as the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix and the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, a few of the many exciting things to do in Singapore.

While hurtling down the bungy-inspired GX-5 Xtreme Swing from a height of 50 metres may not be for everyone, the once-in-a-lifetime experience of a thrilling overseas adventure could light a new fire in you.

As Dan Edwardes, one of the leading exponents of parkour, says, “Our natural limits are much further back than people think…The main barrier is perception of what we think we can or can’t do.”

Get out of your comfort zone, put on your sports gear, and try out some heart-racing activities to do in Singapore specially tailored for the young and the young-at-heart.

1. Be an astronaut for a day

When the G-Max reverse bungy catapults you 8 metres high into the air in a steel capsule, you will momentarily taste how it feels like to be an astronaut.

Prefer free-falling? Grab some unsuspecting family or friends to accompany you on the GX-5 Xtreme Swing. Designed in New Zealand, the swing’s capsule seats five and is pulled perpendicular to the ground before it is released like a giant wrecking ball, reaching speeds of up to 120 km/h.

You will be glad to know that G-Max has a 100% safety record, despite having launched over one million riders into the air.

2. Discover your inner Tarzan

Unleash your inner Tarzan at Forest Adventure, one of Singapore’s top attractions for kids and its only treetop obstacle course.

There are three different courses to opt for. The Grand Course comprises 44 different obstacles, including elevated bridges, hanging nets, zip lines running over the reservoir, and a giant Tarzan swing. Enjoy the greenery of Bedok Reservoir as you zoom through the air.

The Junior Course has 26 obstacles and is set at 6.3 metres above ground. For safety reasons, children below 10 years old must be accompanied on the course by a participant aged 14 and above.

For younger children aged five to 10, the Kids Course features 22 crossings, including two zip lines. Once again, children below the age of seven must be accompanied on the course by an older participant aged 14 and above.

Do note the minimum height requirements though; children need to be at least 1.1 metres tall to qualify for the Kids Course; 1.35 metres for the Junior Course; and 1.5 metres for the Grand Course.

3. Spread your wings at iFly Singapore

At iFly Singapore, you can skydive indoors with complete peace of mind.

Equipped with 18-feet-tall acrylic glass walls, the wind tunnel allows you to enjoy unparalleled views of the South China Sea and Siloso Beach.

The time it takes for each skydive is equivalent to falling through the air from 12,000 to 3,000 feet in an actual skydive. It also comes at a fraction of the cost.

Prices start from S$89 for two skydives. Opt for the VIP experience to get an exclusive tour of the fan deck and see how the wind tunnel works.

As part of the experience, you will receive training from instructors certified by the International Bodyflight Association (IBA), plus complimentary gear rental. Don’t forget to arrive an hour prior to your flight time for the training.

Tip: Get better rates if you book online two days in advance!

4. Feel like an F1 race car driver

Has it been a dream of yours to roar down the F1 race track in a supercar?

With Ultimate Drive, now you can. So what will your choice be – a Porsche 911, Ferrari California, or Lamborghini Aventador?

There are four different drive routes to select from, all of which are part of the official F1 circuit. You can choose to cruise on automatic, or play with the more challenging F1-style paddle gearbox.

You will also get to bring home a souvenir: a high-definition recording of your drive. To some, this may be music to their ears.

Depending on the route you choose, the price tag for the ride of your dreams ranges from S$298 to S$798. Ready to start your engines?

5. Walk on water

Keen to walk on water? Check out Stand Up Paddling (SUP) school at Tanjong Beach, Sentosa. Its beginner SUP class is suitable for the whole family, with a minimum age of seven.

One reviewer on TripAdvisor wrote, “…Being in the lagoon instead of in the open sea was reassuring. [It was] wonderfully relaxing; at the same time owner/instructor Isabelle kept the fun quotient high by challenging us with various drills.”

For the bold at heart, try their yoga on paddle board challenge.

Bookings are available daily, with a minimum of 48 hours advance notice. Rates are at S$80 per person for small groups of two to three people.
