Your All-Australian Travel Bucket List – PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport

Your All-Australian Travel Bucket List

What a year it has been for all of us Australians. Being the globe-trotters that we are, the time spent at home gives us the leeway to explore within our beautiful country. We are very fortunate to live in a destination filled with countless hidden, breath-taking gems. The team at PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport has created an All-Australian Travel Bucket List. Are these destinations on your list too?

1. The Great Barrier Reef (Queensland)

If you haven’t experienced this UNESCO World Heritage icon, then now is your chance. There are a few places you can stay at that work as a gateway to arriving at the world’s largest coral reef. From Cairns, Port Douglas to Townsville, once you have settled in, you can start planning how you want to spend your time at the reef.

You can explore the reef by scuba diving, snorkelling and even glass-bottomed boats – whatever suits you best! There’s also the option of sleeping under the stars in Australia’s first underwater suites.

While you’re at the Great Barrier Reef, don’t forget to visit the Green Island that is covered in luscious flora and interesting native animals. While the reef is a must see, there are many other islands close by that offer stunning waterfalls and unique Australian landscapes that you can discover when you visit tropical north Queensland

2. Sydney (New South Wales)

From Hollywood movies to TV shows, Sydney definitely takes the spotlight as Australia’s most well-known city. It’s certainly earned its reputation with iconic landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and Bondi Icebergs, creating picture perfect backdrops. Sydney really is a city buzzing with excitement while also offering visitors and locals much needed relaxation on its postcard-worthy beaches. Truly the best of both worlds!

If you are looking for accommodation that’s central to all of Sydney’s famous attractions, then our sister property, PARKROYAL Darling Harbour, Sydney, is the place for you.

3. Uluru (Northern Territory)

Dubbed Australia’s “Red Centre”, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is a special landmark to the Indigenous Australians. To visit Uluru, you can fly direct to Uluru Airport. Embarking on a tour with the Anangu people will help you understand the spiritual importance that Uluru holds, as well as learn more about the many plants and animals that call this iconic rock home. Don’t miss out on walking around the Uluru base and witness how the deep red sandstone changes colour as the sun hits – a stunning experience!

4. Melbourne (Victoria)

There’s a reason why Melbourne had a seven year winning streak as the “World’s Most Liveable City” (now second to Vienna!) This city is an electric hub of all the things that make Australia so appealing. From world-renowned restaurants and unique bars to exciting events and artistic landmarks, there really is always something to do.

When visiting the city, you can either choose to discover places like the Eureka Tower that provides the best views of Melbourne or travel out to the Yarra Valley for some of Victoria’s best wine and local produce. If you’re looking for a sea-side escape, then the start of the Great Ocean Road has a range of white sand beaches and small towns that live up to the laid back vibes that Australia is known for.

Looking for accommodation in the heart of the city? Pan Pacific Melbourne is one of Melbourne’s finest premium hotels – perfectly situated on the banks of the Yarra River in the South Wharf precinct

5. Hobart (Tasmania)

Tasmania might seem small in comparison to other Australian states, but there are so many places to discover here, especially in its capital city of Hobart. Ever since Museum of Old and New Art (MONA)’s [LYT1] opening in 2011, this unique and contemporary art gallery has been the talk of Tasmania. The gallery which has been described by the art collector, David Walsh as a “subversive adult Disneyland", will keep you on your toes with surprises in store.

To enjoy some of Hobart’s picturesque natural landscapes, you must visit Mount Wellington. You can choose to either hike up the mountain or take a 30-minute drive up to the pinnacle. Here you will experience breath-taking views of Hobart and all the way to the Derwent River and Coal River Valley. When you are done with sightseeing, wind down with a glass of wine at one of the many wineries along Coal River Valley.

We highly recommend to make a stop at Pooley Wines too for a taste of cool-climate wines such as world class Riesling, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and their delicious wood-fired pizzas.

6. Perth (Western Australia)

Perth is the city in Australia that is constantly developing. Always sunny and relaxed, Perth has a ton of exciting spots to visit. Fremantle is a suburb not far from Perth’s city centre, which blends the old with the new and is perfect for leisurely strolls down its beautiful heritage streets or its farmer’s market.

A day in Freeo (as the locals call it!) isn’t complete without a visit to Cottesloe Beach. From comfortable grass areas to lounge around or a bite to eat in one of the many trendy restaurants and cafes, this is an area you’ll want to spend awhile.

While you’re in Western Austrakua, do make time to experience the beauty of Margaret River. This spectacular region has stunning forests, clear coastlines, as well as a thriving food and art scene. Finally, you cannot leave Perth without a visit to Rottnest Island. 90 minutes from Perth, you will travel by ferry to this tropical oasis. You can snorkel, meet a quokka and stay in an eco-tent!

If you are planning a trip to Perth and in need of some travel tips and accommodation, the team at Pan Pacific Perth would be happy to assist.

7. Adelaide (South Australia)

Some of Australia’s best beaches are located in Adelaide and they definitely do not disappoint! From white sand to warm water, Adelaide has everything beach lovers would enjoy. Glenelg is one of the top pick of beaches for visitors as there is much to explore on its main street ‘Jetty Road’. There are a range of nature walks to be explored when you’re there. Don’t miss out on visiting the Waterfall Gully waterfall, which beautifully encapsulate Adelaide’s natural landscape.

Of course, the wine is what most visitors travel to South Australia for! South Australia’s wine regions produce some of the world’s best wines. You have to visit the Barossa Valley, Mclaren Vale, Clare Valley or Adelaide Hills for a drop of (or more) shiraz that the region is most famous for and a taste of the local produce.

Don’t forget to visit Kangaroo Island too for a dose of untouched paradise. 509km of coastline, wildlife such as seals and koalas, and 891 species of plants, make this island the perfect spot for nature lovers.

8. Canberra (Australian Capital Territory)

Well-known as the political hub of Australia, Canberra is the Capital City of Australia. This city has a lot of interesting landmarks to offer a curious tourist. Taking a tour of Parliament House will leave you in awe of how beautiful this iconic building really is. There are tours every half an hour from 9am to 5pm, where you can learn all about Australia’s political system, while also taking in impressive artwork.

If you’re in the mood to learn more about Australia’s history, geography and culture, then the Natural Gallery of Australia is the best place for you. The gallery also has a range of interesting international exhibits. For a taste of nature, you can visit the Namadgi National Park which is listed on the Australian National Heritage List. The forest has native Australian fauna, sprawling mountains and luscious forests that nature lovers wil appreciate.

Canberra really is the place to learn and explore. You’ll be an expert of all things Australia quicker than you can say “G’day” after your visit!
