Fun Things to do in Parramatta at Night

Travelling to Parramatta for business or pleasure, and need a list of fun things to do in Parramatta at night? Wondering where the best Parramatta bars and restaurants are?

With a resident population of over 250,000, this emerging Australian city has certainly been motivated to build up its entertainment and nightlife scene. It’s also looking to move up the rungs in the tourism game.

Parramatta’s ambitions aren’t just fly-by-night—the city’s council has been working towards its cultural vision for several years. Its focus? To create more community spaces, celebrate diversity, and stimulate creativity. Does this “next great city” currently offer a good spread of nightlife activities? You may be pleasantly surprised!

Below, the PARKROYAL Parramatta team has put together a list of fun things to do in Parramatta at night:

1. Where to catch an evening show in Parramatta

2. Parramatta’s best restaurants for dinner

3. Parramatta’s most popular bars

4. Other late-night entertainment options in Parramatta

1. Where to Catch an Evening Show in Parramatta

Fans of drama, dance, comedy, or classical theatre, this could be the highlight of your Parramatta holidays: a night out at the Riverside Theatre, Parramatta’s premier performing arts centre. It’s no bit player on the arts scene—Riverside Theatre has played host to international theatre luminaries as well as esteemed Australian artists. You will certainly find a show to keep you spellbound!

In the mood for something more casual? Catch a Hollywood blockbuster or a critically acclaimed film at Event Cinemas, located in Westfield Parramatta Shopping Centre. There’s usually a 9:00pm screening for crowd favourites, leaving you with enough time to grab a proper dinner and do a spot of shopping.

Fun fact: Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore was at Westfield Parramatta in early 2019 to promote her cruelty-free cosmetics line, Flower Beauty. You can find her brand at Chemist Warehouse on Level 1.

If you are a guest at PARKROYAL Parramatta, you’ll be glad to know that both Riverside Theatre and Westfield Parramatta are within walking distance, so returning to your room at the end of the night will be a breeze.

2. Parramatta’s Best Restaurants for Dinner

One of your to-dos while in Parramatta should be to grab a classic Australian burger. Sure, not everyone’s partial to canned beetroot or fried egg in their burgers, but remember that the Aussies stand firmly behind their creations.

Top-rated BL Burgers and Brades Burgers both have their fair share of meat-loving loyal supporters, but if you’re after something less guilt-inducing (in terms of calories as well as animal welfare), head to Soul Burger instead for Sydney’s best vegan burger.

Not a fan of fast food? Look to restaurants where ingredients are painstakingly sourced from local producers, with evolving menus based around available fresh produce and lovingly prepared to perfection. One of Parramatta’s best farm-to-table restaurants is Courtney’s Brasserie, which opens till late on most nights. (View a sample menu here.)

3. Parramatta’s Most Popular Bars

If you only have time for one bar in Parramatta, go with Time Out’s pick for Neighbourhood Bar of the Year—Uncle Kurt’s. Patrons say the bar reminds them of New York in the 1980s, and they’re not mistaken.

"I spent time in Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Bushwick and Clifton Hill [in New York],” says owner George Makram.”I tried to find the look and feel I was after, as well as the service style, food, and drink."

The result is a hip (yet unpretentious) small bar that fully deserves the affection of its regulars. Don’t miss the handcrafted cocktails here, as plenty of care goes into each creation.

"It's like liquid cooking," says Makram. "We make our own syrups, infusions, tinctures, bitters, and perfumes. We dehydrate fruits and vegetables ourselves. We carve our own ice daily."

Need more options? Check out Nick and Nora’s—Parramatta’s first rooftop bar. The name is a nod to characters from a 1930s American novel titled The Thin Man, which also inspired a series of classic Hollywood movies.

Curious about what it’s like to party at Nick and Nora’s?

“Picture a private party at an awesome New York penthouse with art deco flourishes, complete with numerous champagne towers, trays brimming with Martinis, and crowds of well-dressed people dancing to upbeat and eclectic funk as the sun sets in the distance,” says owner Greg Sanderson.

For uncomplicated, unadulterated fun amidst a lively atmosphere soundtracked by DJ sets, head to ALEX&Co, which is said to be the best place in Parramatta to let your hair down. It’s where locals go to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, or simply, the end of the work week.
