    About the Chef

    Bassu Gianmario

    Head Chef at Gustoso, PARKROYAL Penang Resort

    Chef Bassu Gianmario has more than 17 years of professional culinary experience. His love and passion for cooking began at a very young age whilst playing under his grandmothers kitchen table, and it was here that the flavors and aromas of traditional Italian cooking first captivated his senses. 

    Mario started his culinary journey in Italy since the year 2002. He started as a Commis Chef. He worked his way up to be an Italian Head Chef. His passion and commitment for Italian culinary has brought him to different countries all across the world. He developed years of experiences from Italy, Ireland, Abu Dhabi, Norway, Australia, Thailand and now Malaysia.

    Mario’s first full venture as an Italian head chef started in Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Norway for three years then to Radisson Blu Hotel in Abu Dhabi for another year. Prior to journeying to PARKROYAL Penang Resort, Mario owned Enjoy’s Italian Bar and Restaurant in Phuket, Thailand. Chef Mario has a true passion for the culinary arts, characterized by an attention to detail and the refined quality of seasonal ingredients that he uses. He constantly strives to find the perfect balance between taste and presentation, and is always a source of inspiration for his team. 

    During his leisure time, Chef Mario enjoys fishing and trying out new dishes to keep himself up to date on market trends.
