Our Commitment to Sustainability

Our Commitment to Sustainability

At PARKROYAL Penang Resort, sustainability is woven into every aspect of our operations from caring for the environment to supporting local communities and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Penang. Our commitment extends beyond hospitality with ongoing efforts to protect our natural surroundings, empower our people and celebrate local arts and traditions. By embracing responsible practices, we aim to create a meaningful experience that is both impactful and fulfilling for our guests and the community we live in.

Our Environment

Coastal Conservation

Recognising the importance of coastal preservation, we have implemented proactive measures by planting Scaevola taccada, commonly known as "beach cabbage." This native plant serves as a natural barrier against erosion while adding aesthetic value to our landscapes through beautiful natural hedges. Moreover, it provides a suitable habitat for turtle nesting activities, supporting the conservation of these remarkable marine creatures.

Recycling and Waste Reduction Initiatives

As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we actively work to minimise single-use plastics across our operations. Our takeaway food comes in eco-friendly packaging, and all guest rooms feature refillable soap and shampoo dispensers containing vegan, cruelty-free products. Our resort adopts recycling practices by sorting materials such as paper, plastic, metals, and cans. Refillable water stations are placed near the swimming pools to minimise the use of disposable plastic bottles, while recycling bins are strategically located throughout the garden area to encourage active participation in our recycling efforts.

Energy Efficiency Initiatives

We are committed to energy efficiency across all our operations. To support this goal, solar-powered lights have been installed around the main pool area, providing sustainable night-time illumination. Additionally, 90% of the light fittings in guest rooms and common areas have been upgraded to energy-efficient LED lights, significantly reducing overall energy consumption. At PARKROYAL Penang Resort, we prioritise water conservation through sustainable landscaping practices. Irrigation is managed through a combination of automatic timers and manual sprinkling, helping to minimise unnecessary water use. This practical approach supports our commitment to using resources responsibly.

Our People and Community

Internship Programmes

Our resort actively supports education and talent development by offering internship opportunities to both local and international students. These internships cover various departments, including Reservations, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Culinary, and Engineering, providing students with practical exposure in a real-world hospitality environment. In addition to hands-on training, we also engage with educational institutions through industry talks and knowledge-sharing sessions, offering insights into career pathways within the hospitality sector. These initiatives reflect our ongoing commitment to nurturing future talent and contributing to community development.

Our Art, Culture and Heritage

Associate Uniforms Featuring Local Batik Art

Our associates wear uniforms featuring hand-drawn batik patterns created by local artists. This initiative supports local artisans while visually reflecting our connection to Penang’s vibrant culture. It enhances the resort’s identity and fosters pride among staff.

Wayang Kulit Performances

During Ramadan, we showcase traditional Wayang Kulit shadow puppet and Gamelan performances. These events not only entertain but also support Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage by introducing guests to local art forms.

Collaborations with Local Artist

We collaborate with local portrait artist Lepat, who offers personalised portrait sketches for guests. To further enrich long-stay guest experiences, Lepat also conducts drawing classes, encouraging creativity and cultural engagement.
