Pan Pacific Whistler and Whistler Artist Support Canuck Place Children's Hospice
(Whistler) Each year, Pan Pacific Whistler donates ten percent of their earnings from the spacious Two-bedroom Canuck Place Suite in Pan Pacific Whistler Village Centre to the caring souls at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.
To date Pan Pacific Whistler has donated $55,355 to the hospice.
This year the donation of $17,563 is earmarked for the furnishings in the Pan Pacific Whistler Family Suite in the new Dave Lede Canuck Place House in Abbotsford. This is the second location for Canuck Place, hoping to support more BC families and their children by offering hospice care in the eastern valley of Vancouver’s Lower Mainland.
The road from Whistler to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice can be a long and winding path, but the ties binding the mountain community to Canuck Place are strong.
Lisa Geddes knows all too well how families in the Sea to Sky corridor struggle when one of their children is in need of medical care, which is available only in Vancouver. Her son was hospitalized with leukemia in 2011. Lisa was grateful to have friends in Vancouver who helped her with the many trips and overnight visits to BC Children's Hospital.
After the Geddes family’s battle with cancer, from which Nick Geddes has fully recovered, Lisa was instrumental in creating a support network for other families. Families Fighting Cancer in the Sea to Sky, part of Sea to Sky Community Services Society, is a community group in Whistler offering financial support and practical assistance to families in the corridor with dependent children who are living with cancer.
When Lisa learned about the Whistler-themed family suite in the new Canuck Place location, she did not hesitate to donate one of her prized art pieces to the hospice. The work entitled Metchosin Meditation will hang in the Pan Pacific Whistler Family Suite in Dave Lede house, hopefully easing the stress of another family’s situation.
