Divine Dumplings for Duan Wu Festival

Singapore, 3 April 2014 – In commemoration of the traditional Dragon Boat “Duan Wu” Festival (端午节), Hai Tien Lo has introduced five varieties of rice dumplings available from 2 May to 2 June. This month-long highlight will showcase some of Executive Chef Lai Tong Ping’s (黎东平) latest creations as he presents traditional favourites with a modern finish.

Taking centre stage is the Traditional Cantonese Rice Dumpling that blends the traditional flavours and textures of Dried Oysters, Pork Belly, Barbecued Duck, Egg Yolk, Lotus Seed and Premium Thailand Glutinous Rice. Based on the popularity of Chinese Herbal Salted Chicken, Chef Lai presents a new dumpling inspired by this dish, using succulent chicken thigh for flavour and a tender finish. Chef Lai and his team have additionally crafted creations to suit different palates with a premium vegetarian option of Eight Treasure Vegetarian Rice Dumpling or Traditional Nyonya Rice Dumpling for guests who prefer more robust flavours.

“This year, we decided to introduce more variety of dumplings to showcase a wider range of flavours for traditional Chinese dumplings. The ingredients used are also handpicked to ensure the perfect combination of taste is presented to guests. Through these dumplings, we also seek to retain the traditional elements of Duanwu Festival,” said Chef Lai.

Starting from 2 May, guests can enjoy these rice dumplings when they dine at the award- winning Hai Tien Lo. Alternatively, the rice dumplings are available for take away from Hai Tien Lo and via online orders from Pacific Marketplace. The dumplings are priced between SGD4.80 and SGD28.80.
