The Role
Position summary statement:
The Sales Manager supports the Director of Sales/Asst Dir of Sales in driving revenue growth for the hotel through the development of MICE and corporate business opportunities to achieve the budget target set. This role has a function reporting line to Dir of Catering Sales.
This role is responsible for developing and expanding the MICE and an assigned corporate client base through proactive sales activities, strategic account management, and relationship building while ensuring a high level of customer service and responsiveness.
The role also includes negotiating corporate and group rates, managing rate loading and account production, preparing sales reports and forecasts, and ensuring alignment with the overall business strategy set by Management.
The ideal candidate is a proactive, driven and results-oriented sales professional with knowledge of the hospitality industry, particularly in MICE and corporate segments with good communication and interpersonal skills, customer-oriented, and have a passion for hospitality sales.
Primary Responsibilities:
Business Development
- Continuously solicit for new business that expands our client base using action plans focused on the corporate and MICE market segment identified by the Director of Sales and Marketing
- Develops and maintains contact with business partners, closely aligned to hotel business Prospecting and growing an account list, handling incoming leads and closing sales
- Aware of sales strategies and goals when selling to negotiate optimum room rate for the benefit of the hotels’ business, sell facts and UPs of the hotel with a view to optimizing opportunities for revenue growth, monitors existing business and share sales strategies during sales/revenue meetings to maximize opportunities
- Work closely with other sales associates and call in on important customers and establishing multiple levels of contacts within the customer’s organization
- Participate in the sales meetings/revenue meetings by sharing latest market trends and new business development opportunities and activities
- Practice professional account qualification on a consistent basis (i.e., measure budget needs, date flexibility, space requirement, competitive information etc).
- Attend tradeshows and major business functions or as required/directed by the Director of Sales & Marketing
- Organizes familiarization of hotels and their facilities with clients and potential ones.
- Responsible for an assigned sales target.
General
- Support and assist in the development of the annual Business Plan, Hotel Budget and Marketing Plan as requested by the Asst/Director of Sales & Marketing
- Gain excellent knowledge of the hotel facilities and services and apply that knowledge in selling against our competitors
- Create excellent client relationship through attention to detail; prompt follow up and empathy for customer perceptions and needs whilst maintaining professionalism
- Prepare periodic sales reports showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client base expansion
- Take ownership of daily sales activities and maximize productivity by following a system of weekly and monthly action plans
- Demonstrate good working relationship with other departments maintaining effective communication and teamwork
- Actively assist the Credit Department in follow-up of deposits, payment and overdue accounts
- Complete small administrative tasks on your own (i.e., photocopying, filing) where possible.
- Comprehend, digest and comply to hotel policies and procedure as described in the Associate Handbook and other documents
- Support and uphold the Hotel’s mission, vision and guiding principles
- Adhere to all established policies and procedures relating to administration of accounts and ultimate booking of business
- Other duties assigned by the Director of Sales when required from time to time

Talent Profile
- Minimum 2 years working experience in Hotel Sales or Hospitality Industry preferred with experience in preparing RFP's (Request for Proposal), MICE and group contacts.
- Minimum Diploma in Hospitality Management or related fields
- Driven, self motivated individual with excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of Opera/IDEAs/Delphi/Passkey/Cvent portals/Lanyon systems will be an added advantage
- Good influencing skills and the ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers which require high level of patience, tact and diplomacy
- Excellent team player who can work under pressure and meeting tight deadlines
- Possess a positive, professional image; contributes an energetic and positive attitude to the hotel atmosphere
- Flexibility to incorporate travel, evening and weekend work into their lifestyle
